HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Support
DFT has effective prevention programmes involve a combination of behavioural, biomedical, and structural interventions. This program aims to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and to reduce the mortality and morbidity caused by the virus and associated conditions, increasing survival, improving the quality of life of grandmothers, Sex workers and youths and preventing HIV transmission.
HIV/AIDS prevention programme emphasis on rights-based, evidence-informed, and community owned programme that use a mix of biomedical, behavioural, and structural interventions, prioritized to meet the HIV prevention needs of individuals and communities, to have the greatest sustained impact on reducing new infections.
DFT has working on HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Support in the following areas;
- Support grandmothers and OVC’s affected by HIV/AIDS.
- Promote accessibility and availability of health facility and health services for Key Priority Population groups.
- Condom promotion
- Engage commercial sex workers in income generating activities
- In-built community score card as a tool for sustainable community-led monitoring system of accessible quality HIV service delivery.
- Enhance capacity of HIV/AIDS and gender school clubs
- Intensively training for peer educators on HIV/AIDS and Sexually transmitted infections controlling, prevention and treatment measures.
- Peer discussion sessions and promote open discussion on HIV/AIDS and STI related issues among communities.
